Stored Procedure

Postby Phil.Jones » Tue Dec 04, 2012 12:34 pm

Hi, All.

I'm trying to do something I thought would be easy: In Vision 6.1(SP4) when an employee wins a project, I'd like to be able to choose his/her name from an employee look-up field (CustContractWonBy) on the project record. On save their yearly goal is then automatically populated (CustYearlySalesGoal) from a field listed on their Employee file (CustSalesGoal).

Attached is the workflow and SQL code, which I adopted from another stored procedure that performs a similar function. However, it doesn't work--I get "Error converting data type varchar to numeric. Error occurred in: Projsalesgoal[CRLF]Error occurred on line 25".

Admittedly, I am an SQL novice, so any help, or an easier way to do this, would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Phil - you need to check what type of field is to be updated as well as the type of the field you are using to update the record. So for example:

In EmployeeCustFields - YearlySalesTotal might be a numeric field
In ProjectCustFields - YearSalesTotal might be a character field

If this is the case you will not be able to update the numeric field with the character field, or vice versa

Hope this makes sense

Without a full understanding, you should be able to do this from a standard workflow. I kind of doubt that a SP would even be required.
