Query just employee and custom fields using Web Services?

Postby smorloc » Thu Jan 15, 2015 7:25 pm

I am trying to query the employee and custom fields table (EmployeeCustomTabFields) using Web Services and am striking out. The reason that I am doing this is that there can be hundreds of client table records per employee record, none of which I need. These unnecessary returns are making my application slow and causing high network traffic.

I have used various combinations of GetEmployeesByQuery(), GetRecordsByQuery() using different SELECTs and different <InfoCenters> specifiers without any success. I end up with either all child records for an employee or only the employee record (and nothing from the EmployeeCustomTabFields table). I'm stumped. Does anyone have any suggestion on how to just query just the records from the EM & EmployeeCustomTabFields tables?

Thanks,
Steve

I don't know Web Services, would be happy to learn about that. But in SQL you would do the following...

Select * from EM A inner join EmployeeCustomTabFields B on A.Employee=B.Employee
where A. Employee = '1234'

That query will give you all records in both tables for Employee No. 1234. Hope that helps some...

Hi Smorloc,

I am also in the same position. Were you successful in querying only the CustomTabInfoFields table? I have tried both GetRecordsByQuery and GetEmployeesByKey but no luck. I am able to fetch the data from EM table but not from customtabfields table.

Any pointers would be appreciated!

Yes, in SQL if I query EM I "only" get EM. No way to get both unless I use an Inner Join.

Thanks for your reply but I want to leverage Deltek Web Service API and not the usual SQL queries. Please clarify.

I explained that on my very first reply. I do NOT know web services. I would be happy to learn and connect with you in a Go To Meeting where we might both gain from the experience.

I am surprised that you are giving an irrelevant answer to the question. My question clearly stated "using web services". Why would I go SQL route (which I am very familiar with)?

Since you referenced queries and tables. I was only trying to help. Best of Luck
