Setting Parameters in Custom SQL Reports

Postby Matt_Kronaizl » Thu Nov 19, 2009 5:27 pm

I have the Deltek guidelines for setting parameters in custom reports, but they are sort of vague.

1. Is the best way to do this by editing the .rdl file in notepad, or is there an better method?

2. If I wanted to create a filter by 'employee name' what would that parameter look like and where in the xml file should it be located?

If I understand your question, the answer is this..

I wouldn't do it editing the rdl.

In BIDS, create a report parameter with a name like custEmId.

In your query use the reference @custEmId.

When testing in BIDS, you will have a little input box to punch in an employee number.

When installed in Vision, after you run the Report Administration, go to the Custom Report Options, find your report and create an option called EmId and if you select the right pulldown for the type, you will get an Employee lookup that will return the number to your report.

Good Luck
